Civility

I am utterly and completely sure that we are both doing what we know to be the right thing to do not only in confirming our relationship in civil terms, but also in doing so in Montreal, Quebec.
Civil is an interesting word, derived from civis (citizen) and by connotation impliying that all civilised life is in built-up areas (as opposed to barbarian forests). Notions of civility are therefore based on socially acceptable behaviour in large gatherings of people. I understand that civil unions and civil partnerships are so-called because they relate to legislation laid down (another interesting derivation) by civilised society. I promise to be civil.

Tomorrow (Thursday 31 March) is our interview for our civil union. We will be present in the spirit and represented by Rose and Sylvain. Hope it goes ok.
